In 1984, the Amstrad CPC range of computers were introduced to compete with existing 8-bit home computers that dominated the market, which were the Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum.

The machine saw success in the UK, Spain, France and German-speaking parts of Europe.

It was discontinued in 1990.
